The BreakAway LDX is a fast action 13' rod that has a rated maximum total casting weight of 5-ounces. If objective is to throw lighter weighted baits or those 3-ounce lures out a good distance, than this would be a great choice. The Breakaway LDX Series is available in both Conventional Casting or Spinning.
Breakaway DX Series Rods feature the latest in durable lightweight graphite technology combined with designs from long distance casting coach Nick Meyer. Part of the secret to Breakaway's success is the amount of time spent designing and field testing as well as competing hard in tournaments. Breakaway rods are different than your average fishing rod. The rod blanks are designed with three separate zoned actions which come into play as the rod is loaded. First, the softer tip loads and transfers the energy down the blank. Second, the energy reaches the middle zone where it is harnessed and distributed. Third, the energy finally is stored in the butt section. The butt section on a BreakAway rod stays stiff when the rod has achieved lock down. (Lock down is when the tip is just about 90 degrees to the butt of the rod during a cast - Only during a cast! - DO NOT BEND TIP BY HAND!) The energy is then released from the stiff butt of the rod towards the tip. The powerful butt will recover much faster than traditional rods and this increases the distance of the cast.
All two piece Breakaway rods are designed with a ferrule which has a gap. The ferrule is designed into the rod to increase the diameter of the graphite. When rod makers taper the butt of a rod to go into the tip, the smaller diameter decreases the rigidity of the butt and produces a soft spot. By using the ferrule connection this gives the butt rigidity, making the rod cast further eliminating the soft spot. You will always have a gap in a ferrule joint even when it is seated together.
