Wireline and wire leader are a key piece of tackle to target popular toothy species like sharks, wahoo, bluefish, king mackerel, pike and muskey. When fishing for toothy critters an angler must take all necessary precautions in order to protect the main line from a trophy's big razor sharp teeth!

Wire leader line varieties: Solid Stainless Wire, Braided Wire aka Cable, Flexible Coated Wire, Titanium Wire. Wire leader is also available in pretied form.

Solid wire must be rigged via a twisted loop called a Haywire twist. Cable and coated wire must be crimped with a sleeve and swager tool. Some titanium wire can be tied.

Soft Monel Wireline is used for trolling purposes. It brings a trolling lure down in the water column with out the need for a drail weight and eliminates the use of a downrigger. Both of which can be used as a substitute. Wireline fishing for striped bass and bluefish in the NorthEast is a tradition that has stood the test of time.
