Diamond Jig Lures
Diamond jig fishing lures are one of the most versatile fishing lures ever made. They are great off of the surf and in the boat. They are a staple on every charter and party boat in the Northeast and almost every surfcasters plug bag. Why? Because they are very durable fish catching lures that aren't expensive. They are especially good when slender bait like sandeels or spearing is present. They cast great and can be fished a variety of ways. Cast it, Jig it, Troll it... They catch!
Diamond Jigs are sometimes called an AVA Jig. Don't confuse the two. They are the same. The AVA brand name still lives from the days of AVA Tackle, who introduced the lure many years ago.
Diamond jig lures are very popular for targeting species like cod, bluefish, striped bass, sea bass, tuna, mackerel, fluke, weakfish, false albacore, bonito, among many other.
What is a diamond jig fishing lure? A diamond jig aka Ava jig is a slender four sided lure which has a wide point in the middle and is tapered towards the ends. They are made of lead and have a shinny chrome plated finish that is very durable. The top and bottom of the weighed lure body has an eye. One is to tie your line to and the other end has a swivel which a hook is attached to. Some are rigged with a bare treble hook, some with a bare siwash hook. The most popular are diamond jigs that are rigged with a colored latex tubing (cut on a sharp angle) which is on a long bent shank hook known as a limerick hook.
