Tsunami Shield Spinning Reel

Tsunami has done it again with another EPIC Product. The Tsunami Shield Spinning reel is an all metal water resistant fishing reel. The Tsunami Shield consists of up to 13 internal seals that keep out sand, water and dirt to keep the reel from locking up. The aluminum rotor, sideplate, body and handle arm helps keep the weight down to make fishing even more comfortable(9.5oz-16.5oz depending on size); while the main shaft is constructed out of stainless steel. The powerful and smooth CF3 carbon fiber drag systems makes this reel a beast; putting out up to 30lbs of max drag on the larger sizes. The EVA ball knob grip is super comfortable and light weight handle offers a great grip even when wet Reliable yet affordable. Ranging from $99-$109

  • Sealing of the drag: The main shaft has to be circular so that the seal maintains its radius to create a sure seal under all circumstances. The seal also needs a flat platform to rest on which is created by the clicker star. Lastly, our design leaves only one small hole that needs to be sealed versus building the seal into the spool which creates multiple holes that need to be sealed with many more parts.
  • Weight reduction: Some reels on the market build the seal into the bottom of the spool to eliminate this design but they add 1-2ozs by doing this. These designs also require more parts and holes that can be trouble areas for salt and sand to get trapped in.
  • The Shield "L" pin design has less parts for easy serviceability, removal of rotor and reduced weight to create the same water seal. This pin system is only found in high end reels such as a Penn Torque Spinning Reel and a Van Staal.

Tsunami Shield Reel Care

Your Tsunami Shield reel is highly water resistant with its thirteen individual water seals placed strategically throughout the reel mechanism, but that doesn't mean the reel is maintenance free. Considering the extreme exposure to the elements expected of these reels, some maintenance is required.
If you want youre reel to function properly for season after season, you have to routinley perform some simple external maintenance. The internal seals in your Shield reel will guard against water and salt penetration but the outside of your reel needs some special attention. After a day, or night, of crashing waves or salt spray, your Shield reel needs a quick flush and wipe-down. We recommend that the reel be sprayed with a water displacing lubricant such as WD-40, Corrosion-X or CRC.

Place the reel on a paper towel and allow it to "sit" for a few minutes while the spray penetrates any built up salt or displaces any water that might be present. The spray will also pentrate into the ball pivot points, line roller and handle mechanism and act as a continuing lubricant and protectant for these external parts. When you are ready, simply wipe the reel down with a soft cloth to remove excess spray. It doesn't have to be totally dry since a light coating of spray will act as a protectant in storage and for future use. Most such sprays will not harm braided or monofilament lines or fluorocarbon leaders but you may want to wrap a cloth around the line of the spool or remove it entireley when spraying.

Followiung this simple procedure on a routine basis will keep your reel operating properly for a long time. It will prevent salt build up from causing parts to bind, prevent external corrosion and keep you on the wter with your Tsunami Shield Reel....chasing trophies!
